Low Vision Support at Gower Opticians

Over the past few weeks, we’ve received many enquiries about the low vision services available here in Wales and what we offer at Gower Opticians. As you may know, Laura is a Low Vision Accredited Optometrist, working in partnership with the Low Vision Service Wales to supply specialist vision aids to people whose sight remains impaired — even with glasses, contact lenses, or after surgery.

Low vision can take many forms: difficulty with contrast, problems seeing at night, or decreased peripheral vision. One of the most common causes is age-related macular degeneration.

At Gower Opticians, we run a dedicated low vision clinic where Laura demonstrates a wide range of visual aids and assistive technologies. These tools are designed to help you continue enjoying your favourite hobbies and day-to-day activities, even if your vision has changed.

Thanks to support from the Low Vision Service Wales, both appointments and vision aids are offered free of charge to eligible patients. We only ask that you return any aids once they’re no longer useful. For more about this service, you can find Laura featured in a recent article by Swansea Bay University Health Board, where her work supporting the community is highlighted.
